Church History

The organizational meeting of what is now Calvary Baptist  Church was held the beginning of July 1955 with ten people present.  The first Sunday School was held on July 10, 1955 at the old Iaeger Elementary School as Iaeger Baptist Sunday School.  The charter members were Emma Hampton, Mrs. H. L. Bailey, Mr. & Mrs. R. B. Cook, Mr. & Mrs. J. A. Hatcher, Mr. & Mrs. E. L. Liddle, Mr. & Mrs. E. P. Pauley and Mr. & Mrs. P. A. Wisler.  Reverend Irvin Muncy became the first pastor.

By October 1955 membership had grown to 39

What We Believe

...the Bible is the inspired and only infallible and authoritative Word of God.   II Timothy 3:16

...there is one God, eternally in three persons, God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.   I John 5:7

...that the Holy Spirit of God fully indwells every believer at the moment of conversion and that believers should allow the Spirit to fill them daily through prayer.  Romans 8:9 and Ephesians 5:18

...in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the father, in His personal future return to the earth in power and glory to rule a thousand years.  Revelation 20:4

...the only means of being cleansed from sin is through repentance and faith in the precious blood of Christ.  Acts 3:19

...the redemptive work of Christ on the cross provides healing of the human body in answer to believing prayer.  I Peter 2:2

...in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost, the one to everlasting life and the other to eternal damnation.  Revelation 20:6-15

"I was glad when they said unto me, let us go into the house of the Lord"  Psalm 122:1
